Protective clothing is primarily concerned with protection, obviously. These garments are designed to protect the wearer from harm in the environment. This could occur for various reasons, from hail to oil to molten metal, even protecting the wearer from infection. The same is true for the environment; sometimes a suit will protect the environment from the wearer, for example one may need to protect a Clean Room (sterile environment commonly found in the production of computer hardware) from pollution and dust, or one may need to protect a patient from infection in a hospital.
Protective garb can also be worn for contact sports, or dangerous sports such as: rugby, horse riding, cricket, football, etc.
